ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਤਾਂ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਥੀਵੈ ਹਰਿਆ ॥੧॥

My satguru had been merciful to me. I never deserved such mercy. It is HIS glory, HIS greatness and HIS mercy that inspired useless person like me to attempt to understand gurbani and to express the perception in this pattern. I never had dreamt of such an outcome nor had I any confidence because I am neither a scholar nor have any command over language. And HE has filled my hirday with bliss bliss and bliss. Main nirguniar see, usne aap kirpa keetee, usde mehar sadka mera man tan haria hua.

I lack words to express my gratitude towards HIM.
.
Again I repeat my humble request to sadh sangat ji. I am a semi-literate person with no command either on language or on knowledge but even then I was inspired to spell out my understanding of sukhmani sahib ji. I seek humble apology from learned persons for shortcomings. I admit I am not a scholar. If I am wrong somewhere, I may be pointed out. I will re-align my understanding by taking those words as hukam of my waheguru jee.

With satguru's blessings and waheguruji's kirpa, following blogs are posted in this series. The blogs as per inbuilt system are visible in descending order (i.e. first blog at the bottom - the last being at top). But, please, it is my humble suggestion that the blogs may be pursued in following order. As such, the same will be sequence-wise and will be convenient to you too.

(15) Satguru’s blessings :

Satguru is knower of God almighty. He saves sikh (disciple). How? Satguru is merciful. He protects sikh (disciple), removes filth from him, inspires him for God’s naam. Satguru frees Sikh from bondages and evils and grants him God’s blessings.

Satguru’s blessings get GOD to sikhs. Satguru himself always remains in GOD. Lucky are those who get opportunity to have vision and blessings of satguru.

By grace of God, I have met satguru who put eyedrops of spiritual knowledge in my eyes. And with his blessings, inner knowledge is revealed to me and now God’s names taste sweet to me. Now I know that in entire creation HE himself prevails, nothing else. But this vision only he gets, whom HE wishes. The entire show runs as per his planning and wish. The mercy of satguru removes incorrect knowledge.

(16) Saints:

Ashtpadi 7 &13 explains in detail of wonderful story of saints. The gist is to get blessings of God. For that, yearning for HIS love, surrender to HIS orders, removal of obstacles in efforts for same, eradication of anger, desire, greed, attachment and EGO is required. If we remain in holy company with full faith and discipline, we are blessed.
The company of holy saints provides us cleanliness of filth in mind including ego. It opens ways to God and one feels blessings of God coming through saints. It succours persons trapped in maya. The company and blessings of saints encourages and manages to put the aspirant on correct path by providing him necessary support at all levels. Guru Sahib has finally concluded that there is no difference between saints and God. God’s love flows through saints.
Slanderer, by slandering of saints, shortens own life, is trapped by yama (death-messenger), loses happiness, gets hell, dishonour, dissatisfaction in life, jealousy and all kind of discomforts. Slanderer becomes tyrant, killer, and one among bad books of god. He loses wealth, peace and gets diseases. He is friend to none, proud of self and accordingly trapped in vicious cycles of rebirths. Slanderer gets loneliness and is trapped for downfall from all angles. He does not get support from any quarter. One should respect saints, seek their blessings, recite God’s name and be benefited by their holy company.
Saints’ blessings will elevate you to highest levels. Why to slander and why not to bow before them to get support?
O my mind you take shelter of such servants of God, who have accepted god as their saviour. They are controller of everything and by accepting their shelter and getting their vision, you will be blessed and will get relief from cycles of rebirths.
The vision of saints reveals HIM. Saints oblige by getting HIS blessings to devotee


(17)barahm gi-aanee:
Barahmgianees are persons who are blessed by God and they know God. There is no difference between God and Brahmgianees. One should strive hard to remain in their holy company and seek their blessings.
Ashtpadi 8 explains signs. Brahmgianees have same in words and heart and see HIM only everywhere – he is unattached as lotus in water – unstained as Sun which gives light and heat to all equally – looks every person alike as wind and fire entertains.

(14) What should be routine of life for aspirant (gursikh)?

# The aspirant for blessings of waheguru jee has to create his eligibility for it.
The eligibles are who keep NAAM installed in their hearts and always have sense of bowing to HIM, who do not tell lies, who yearn to meet God, who do not have evil eyes on other women, who are ready to do service to god-blessed persons (saints, brahmgianees), who avoid criticisms, who treat themselves as worst, who leave bad conducts and who conquer craving for satisfaction of indriyas.
God blesses those who adhere to these and are busy in chanting and encouraging others to chant God’s name, do not have any expectations from anywhere. For this, one should avoid company of evil people and try to remove his wrong myths and remain in worship of God. He feels himself always in company of God only and obeys HIS orders. For him pleasures and agonies, gold and soil, ambrosia and poison, honour and insult, are same. He always accepts the circumstances around him as DESIRE OF GOD and relishes same treating same as god-sent gifts for him.
Such persons are blessed by God. One should strive hard to adopt these measures. And if we pray divine help, we will get support from God almighty to implement same in our life.

# Depend on God and not on this world. One should always recite HIS name (use of tongue), should relish happening around as his wondrous play (use of eyes), should walk on way to God (use of feet), should work for god (use of hands) and should listen HIS glories (use of ears). Blessed are who with guru’s grace recite HIS name, who remain desire-less and who yearn for God while being in family life.

# One should not worry in life. Pains and pleasures God sends to us according to our destiny (which we earned as per our actions). Nothing is in our hands. Leave everything to HIM only. When you took birth, what had you brought along with you? Why are you over-clinging to worldly pleasures? Realise, in fact, what you want can be obtained by his grace only. Forget your false pride and dip in bliss of his name. Take help from saints and invoke HIS (God’s) blessings. That is only way out. HE puts life in dead persons, provides food to hungry, can provide you any treasure but it is you who have to deserve same because you get as per your pre-ordained destiny. To deserve, seek HIS blessings, (recite his name leaving behind pride). Who understands God as all-in-one only can get through to HIM. No other way out.

# Attachment with people should be avoided and one should always have HIM in his heart as HE is unique and is pervading everywhere. HE only is to grant all our wishes. What he ordains, comes to us. He only creates and destroys. HE only monitors entire show. As children cannot know history of father, nobody claims to have known HIM. The persons, whom HE pleases, are trapped in three gunas and remain in vicious cycles of rebirths. And whom HE pleases, he reveals HIMSELF. He remains with different forms, different attributes and different behavioral patterns. One should trust and continue praying to HIM. Forget other shelters, which are illusory only.

# Gursikh always obeys commands of satguru and who sells his mind to satguru, he gets all kind of blessings. He becomes desire-less while remaining in service of satguru and he gets GOD.

# One should interact with saint about hari naam. You should forget all strategies and should install hari naam in heart. It is real earning and wealth. This shelter only will relieve you from all diseases (of body and mind). If you want pleasures (bliss), take shelter with saints. If you want glory, recite naam of that almighty. If you want to get rid of internal and external diseases, take medicine of hari naam. If you want relief from cycles of rebirths, take HIS shelter. It is essence of all the scriptures that worshipping HIM will only bring out results. No support such as wealth, relatives, vehicles, power will be able to take care of your problems except HIS naam. Realising that hari naam jaap will get you bliss in both the worlds, why O my mind, you are wandering aimlessly. Forget all shelters and make HIM your substratum. You will be blessed blessed blessed.

# Sing glory of God in holy company of saints. Ponder over knowledge of God and redeem this body, which is difficult to acquire. Sing ambrosial words of lord to save your soul. Visualize God always with you. Your ignorance and darkness will vanish. These teachings, please inscribe in heart and all your desires will be granted. And HE only knows the truth. You will be relieved of pains and sorrows. Why do not undertake this true business. Again, why to be away from God who is protector of all? You know by HIS blessings, one becomes fearless, worry-less. How can you worry when you are under protection of who saves all? HIS wisdom is perfect. HIS vision is ambrosial. By having HIS glorious look, we are saved and remain in bliss.

# After getting guidance from satguru, one should always feel God near himself, he should remember God’s name in rhythm of breathing, should get rid of multiplying desires, should seek blessings of saints, pray to God forgetting his own ego, get salvation by filling his treasures with Hari Naam. To get blissful pleasures, one should remember God with the help of saints. He should remember form of God as Narayan (all pervading lord) Gopal (sustainer of world) Damodar (Lord of world) Deen dayal (protector and supporter to poor, remover of pains, merciful. He should intensify his devotion with blessings from saints.

The above are basic ideas of strength as expressed in Sukhmani sahib ji. Complete surrender to waheguru with love and devotion and recitation of HIS naam will get you all other virtues too which will be accelerating your journey towards Him. Needless to add Gurbani should be studied, listened and should be LIVED, its verses should be adopted for follow-up in life as orders of waheguru jee conveyed to us through satguru. Believe me, Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji is living guru. In case you are sad, perplexed, confused or are feeling helpless, support-less, directionless, weak, trapped by enemies such as kaam, krodha, lobh, moh, ahankar, go to Guru sahib with trust, devotion and faith. Vision itself will give you elevation, consolation, happiness, assurance and bliss. Hukamnama will provide you guidance, support, direction, strength and inspiration.

Lastly, my humble suggestion. Japjee sahib is theme of sri Guru Granth sahib ji. Sukhmani sahib ji is its key. It is in such a simple language that there is no need to seek translation for local persons. If needbe transliteration/translation can also be referred. This bani is specially blessed by Guru Sahib ji. Time-permitting, kindly go through my blog “Why Sukhmani” too. Recitation of Sukhmani sahib ji done with love, faith and devotion inscribes bliss and new true meaning of gurbani in heart (hirday). We all are at different levels. We have our own limitations (individually) too. But if affordable, daily path of entire sukhmani sahibji should be done. If not possible, it can be recited daily with regularity and path can be completed in 2 – 3 – 4 – 6 – 8 – 12 – 24 days. Depends upon affordability. Once started, guru maharaj will also provide more strength. And the same should be with clear understanding of text, love and devotion. It will definitely accelerate your efforts.
And Gursikh has not to forget to follow the principles of
Naam Japo (chant the name of God), Kirat Karo (earn your living by working honestly), Vand ke Chhako (share your wealth with the needy)

Waah waah mere satguru maharaj. How beautifully, in ashtpadi 12, he has made us understand this point.

The cosmic drama is created and monitored by HIM only. Nothing is in hands of human-beings. We have feeling of separateness from HIM only due to individuality acquired by us and root cause of it is ego (haume). In fact only HE is the doer. We all act according to his orders only. Everything in this creation moves according to his plan and will. Due to delusion, one acquires pride, and he gets feeling that he has achieved something due to his wisdom, his strategy, his efforts, his cleverness, his intelligence etc. It is illusion only. If some achievement appears due to these factors, who provided these factors of strength. That God only. Only inspiration provided by HIM made you start the process and supports provided by HIM made you get those things (of which you are proud of by treating the same as your own outcome). The best purpose of life is to seek blessings of God. For that ego is first barrier to be removed. Humbleness will get you love of God and yearning for recitation of HIS naam.

Ego-less humble beings are blessed with peace. Proud persons have a fall. Proud of power, one suffers in hell. Proud of youth, one will fall to filth. Feeling pride in having done good deeds one will be trapped in repeated cycles of rebirth. Proud of wealth and landed properties are fools and blind (as in reality, these are not theirs and vanish-able.) Humbles only get salvation and they are not misled by false pride.
Why to take pride in wealth, as it is not to go with you? Why to treat yourself as powerful person as you can reduce to ashes anytime?
You have done good deeds but if you are proud of same, it will be of no use. You have observed austerities but pride will trap you in cycles of rebirth. Who always bother for his nice image in society – how goodness in fact will come to him? The only way out is to be humble and treat self as dust of all. Only those persons will win.
A person is not, in fact, happy if he continues thinking that his efforts can get him what he wants. Till he thinks like that he remains in cycles of rebirth. Till he eradicates his attitude to accept people as friend or enemy, his mind does not get peace. Till he remains in vicious circles of maya, he suffers. By being humble, he is blessed by God who breaks all his bondages.
If you are not humble, you always run after maya, are in mad race of earning, to get corrupt pleasures (bhoga). You are always discontented.
Leave pride (haume), be humble (maskiniya). Bow before HIM
haume-less. Seek shelter in HIM. HIS blessing will exalt you.

In previous blogs, we pondered over many points. We concluded that cosmic drama is created and monitored by HIM only. Nothing is in hands of human-beings. We have feeling of separateness from HIM only due to individuality acquired by us and root cause of same is ego (haume). The situation around us and reality is not being perceived by us due to delusion of Maya. If we diminish our haume and surrender ourselves to will of that omnipotent divine father he gets us TRUTH implanted in our mind. That wisdom (sojhi) gifted by HIM gets us clear vision. But the point is, first step required is to finish individuality. Merely efforts of human-beings in the forms of various strategies (such as austerities, pilgrimage, meditation, studying through scriptures, yoga and righteous conduct, renunciation, fasting, and other ways)may or may not yield results. But complete surrender to HIM and yearning prayers will get you HIS blessings And HIS blessings are must. It is HIS sweet will to whom he reveals truth and to which extent. Even inspiration to spiritual efforts also comes from HIM only.

(11) We are fearless when we trust HIM

neekee keeree meh kal raakhai.
bhasam karai laskar kot laakhai.
jis kaa saas na kaadhat aap.

maanas jatan karat baho bhaat.
tis kay kartab birthay jaat.
maarai na raakhai avar na ko-ay.
sarab jee-aa kaa raakhaa so-ay.
kaahay soch karahi ray paraanee.

The cosmic play is monitored by waheguru himself. You are under his shelter. HE is same who protects and gives all powers to even ants (neeke keere) and is capable of destroying powerful armies (against you).

Nothing is in hands of human-being. Neither any other entity can give life or death to any person. Only God is protector of all. HE is running this show according to HIS own will. When you have surrendered yourself to that omnipotent divine father, when you have a feeling that you are best-protected, when you have taken refuge in HIM, where is the room for any fear? He is your sustainer, your protector, your best and 100% guaranteed dependable support-line, your supporter since times immemorial and your refuge for future too. There is no scope left to worry and be in fear. Whatever is happening, is within HIS knowledge and as per HIS will. You have put yourself in HIS shelter (sharan). Now it is HIS duty to see your welfare.

When everything is monitored by HIM only how can there be anything bad? It is matter of perception only. We should trust HIM and accept HIS will. Even then if fear comes, pray waheguru ji only to implant right attitude in your mind so as to enable it to accept the situation in its true sense. THERE CANNOT BE ANYTHING BAD. IT IS MATTER OF PERCEPTION ONLY.
is tay ho-ay so naahee buraa.
orai kahhu kinai kachh karaa.
aap bhalaa kartoot at neekee.
aapay jaanai apnay jee kee.

And again since nothing is in the hands of human-being, everything moves according to HIS will only and there is no alternative except to accept HIS will. So no scope of fear.

(10) How waheguru responds to devotee and how these devotees feel like?

How waheguru responds to devotee?

sat saroop ridai jin maani-aa.
karan karaavan tin mool pachhaani-aa.
jaa kai ridai bisvaas parabh aa-i-aa.
tat gi-aan tis man paragtaa-i-aa.
bhai tay nirbha-o ho-ay basaanaa.
jis tay upji-aa tis maahi samaanaa.
basat maahi lay basat gadaa-ee.
taa ka-o bhinn na kahnaa jaa-ee.
boojhai boojhanhaar bibayk.
naaraa-in milay naanak ayk.

Wonderful is ashtpadi 17, which explains how waheguru responds to devotee.

Waheguru had been true in the beginning, in ages, HE is and will remain in future too. HE is true and his worshippers are true. HIS vision is true and true are who behold HIM. HIS naam is true and true is who meditate on it. HE is goodness and HE himself is bestower of it. HE is true and true is one who could know HIM by HIS grace.

One, who perceives truth of HIM, will accept HIM cause of causes of everything. It is possible if one accepts it by heart. Such person understands everything and remains fearless. Now it is clear to that person that everything originated from waheguru and will merge there itself ultimately. The devotee treats himself as humble servant of God. Servant of master is obedient to master, he worships master always, depends on master, lives purely, remains absorbed in Naam, remembers HIM through each breath, feels bliss always.
AND God covers shortcomings of devotee, protects him, gets him honour, inspires him for naam recitation, fills him with bliss. The devotee is highest and is known in all ten directions by HIS grace.

Now the question, how these blessed devotees feel like?

Ashtpadies 20, 23 & 24 beautifully explain it.

Once satguru’s grace is showered over devotee, he (devotee) is inspired and supported to seek blessings of waheguru jee by simran, devotion, recitation and worshipping. Shortcomings particularly haume (ego) of devotee diminish. And he is mentally merged with whom he belonged (GOD). Once blessed by waheguru jee, all desires of devotee are fulfilled and he is content thereafter. He remains in bliss always. He is relieved of tension of rebirths. Love and taste of yearning has developed in heart and body. Eyes get peace by vision. By devotion, his heart is pacified. The knower of HIM (God) now gets all blissful pleasures. That divine father merges that devotee in HIMSELF. He gets wealth and prosperity He gets liberation. Then he is empowered to save other worldly people too. They are now representatives of God to distribute bliss, salvation, devotion and peace.
jo jaanai tis sadaa sukh ho-ay.
aap milaa-ay la-ay parabh so-ay.

jeevan mukat jis ridai bhagvant.

Which is best place?
The heart full of HIS blissful naam

My humble prayer to Waheguru jee. Only that person can succeed in taking right steps to get the best, who is inspired and supported by you. Kindly be merciful. Bless me and make me have your blissful naam in my heart. May I be successful in intensifying naam simran and righteous conduct of life. Kindly support my efforts to clean inner-self with help of holy company of saints. May I always remain in naam jaap, listening to ambrosial verses singing your glories and be in blissful intoxication (khumari) of your naam jaap. May entire sadh sangat be blessed by you.

(8) Why simran?

simra-o simar simar sukh paava-o.
kal kalays tan maahi mitaava-o.
simra-o jaas bisumbhar aikai.
naam japat agnat anaykai.

keenay raam naam ik aakh-yar.
kinkaa ayk jis jee-a basaavai.
taa kee mahimaa ganee na aavai.
kaaNkhee aikai daras tuhaaro.
naanak un sang mohi uDhaaro.

The cosmic drama is created and being monitored by that almighty God. Due to individuality acquired by human-being because of ego (HAUME), we have feeling of separateness from HIM. And this separateness is root-cause of all our sufferings. There is bliss and bliss and nothing else when we are one with HIM. And the way out for same is worshipping HIM, by diminishing own individuality (haume) and recitation of HIS naam. The perfect way out is simran and is fully explained my guru maharaj in ashtpadies 1, 2, 14, 16, 20.

First we shall take up the point as to why not other means of worshipping. Asht3 explains for salvation, one HAS to get rid of filth of ego (haume). It may not be possible with austerities, pilgrimage, meditation, studying through scriptures, yoga and righteous conduct, renunciation, fasting, and other ways only but naam jaap is perfect way to remove the filth of haume. Other means may or may not and sometimes, rather aggravate situation. These means may get temporary powers and feelings but increase pride also. The naam jaap is with devotion, love and complete self-surrender and naam jaap finishes haume. Complete surrender brings in humility, which is precondition to get HIS true blessings. It is possible with simran – naam jaap.
Guru sahib guided, great cleverness will not relieve you from fear of death. Thirst is not quenched with various efforts. Shackles of maya are hard to be broken and there is sure shot way for these that is naam simran. In the darbar of God, naamjaap will get you relief; other ways may or may not.
So O mind – be busy always in sweet memory of HIM. This is only way out. Can’t you realize that the direction given by merciful Guru Sahib is
# so simple (no preconditions of eligibility, no complicated procedures involved, non dependent on outside factors, no imposed rituals, no laborious austerities)
# sure shot way of diminishing haume (by complete self-surrender to ways of waheguru jee)
# so perfect way (as God understands language of love and not rituals)

Now the main question > Why Simran?

Due to individuality acquired by human-being because of ego (HAUME), we have feeling of separateness from HIM. And this separateness is root-cause of all our sufferings. There is bliss and bliss and nothing else when we are one with HIM. And the way out for it is worshipping HIM, by diminishing own individuality (haume) and recitation of HIS naam. We should maximize simran to the best of our capability and the same should be with love, devotion and sense of complete self-surrender. HIS remembrance will dispel worry and anguish from you, get you rid of rebirths, death cycles, will eliminate your enemies (our enemies are our shortcomings), will remove your obstacles, will awaken you internally, will make you fearless sorrow-less.
You will be blessed with wealth power naunidhis, with knowledge and intuitional wisdom, with honour. Inspiration to simran is possible only by HIS mercy. You will be granted same. HIS remembrance has exalted many, you will also be exalted - has saved many, you will also be saved. HIS remembrance fulfills your desires - strengthens you to understand everything - eradicate your fears your filth your shortcomings. Those who remember HIM are wealthier, more respected, leading, happier and perfect. HIS remembrance will get you success all around, keep you tensionfree and coolminded. You will have blissful mind, strength in life.

You are depending on worldly objects i.e. parents sons, relatives for help. They have got limitations, where they fail, naam simran will protect you.
Simran will protect from tortures of death. Naam will solve such problems, which you feel are not having solutions. It will relieve you from burden of sins you have earned.

You have plenty of wealth, still you are in sorrowful condition, you feel loneliness, you are trapped by obstacles all around, you are in vicious cycles of birth and death, you have dark ways ahead, you feel terrible heat and blazing sunshine, you have torments of thirst >> chanting of name will give you relief.

O mind, do you know bhaktas’ main article of daily routine had been simran only, they depended on it only, they found shelter in IT only, they had been saved, they have been blessed by almighty god and they remained always in ecstasy of HIS love. Naam simran. Harinaam (chanting of god’s name) had been granting liberation, satisfaction, beauty/delight, freedom from obstacles, earnest desire to serve naam to bhaktas.

O mind do you know for HIS bhaktas, naam is sole treasure of wealth, naam is their sole protector, naam is resort of entire glory and lo due to naam only they are blessed by GOD.

Who focuses his mind on God his mind never wavers. How can person fear when HE has dependence on God? Knowers of HIM are glorious and are instrumental for redeeming others, eradication of others’ shortcomings. They are luckiest persons. They accept God as controller of entire show and they distribute bliss in world.

O mind, you are blessed by God. You bow before Satguru Maharaj, you bow before Sukhmani Sahib jee, and you bow before Wahegurujee. Due to their mercy, you could get little bit glimpse of glory of naam simran.

My personal perception is, it is impossible to express glory of naam simran by words. You recite Sukhmani sahib again and again and everytime, you get intuitional blissful feeling of glory that you cannot cannot express in words. I tender my apology, as I am unable to express what I feel at my heart, which is full of bliss. It was only an attempt to express, as the glories of naam simran are incomprehensible to human mind. Because it is another roop of waheguru jee. Who can explain HIM? Antargat jis ap janae - Nanak tis jan ap bujhae. Pray and recite Sukhmani sahib jee with devotion, understanding will automatically land in your heart.

(7) How this show of creation is managed by HIM?

karan kaaran parabh ayk hai doosar naahee ko-ay.
naanak tis balihaarnai jal thal mahee-al so-ay.

That almighty God is the reality only. Creation and destruction is all illusory and HE is substratum of this appearance. Nothing is born nothing dies. It is all HIS play. Coming and going, seen and unseen, all are according to HIS orders only.

HE pervades in water, land and sky (jal-thal-nabh – all three) and is only doer. HE is omnipotent. What pleases HIM, happens. HE is creator and HE is destroyer. HE does not have any limitations. Creation and destruction is as per HIS orders and these creations are without any substratum. They behave in different manner and are having different colors and forms according to HIS orders only. And HE enjoys HIS creation. HE has no form, shape, colour and is beyond three attributes. But one can perceive it only when HE pleases. Again HE acquires forms too. Wonderful it is, but fact is HE himself meditates on himself( through creation).
It is HIS show and HE himself has created. Otherwise could you conclude, when world was not there, where was sin and noble deeds, hatred-ness, happiness and sorrows, emotional attachment and doubts. It is HIS own created drama only. When HE himself was alone, who was free or bonded, where were heavens and hells, where were shiva and shakti, where was fearless and afraid, where was life and death, where was filth and what was to be washed away, who had pride and of what, where was hunger and quest, where were relations, where were owners and servants. More you think, more surprised you become Because HE and HE only was there and he created everything.
When HE was in himself, who was trapped by Maya, who acquired worries, who spoke and who listened, when you ponder it, you are surprised. Is it not so? HE only created world out of three gunas (dispositions). Then concept of heaven and hell came into existence and creation was created by Maya Shakti with pride (haume) emotional attachment (moha) delusion (bhram), pleasures and pains (dukha sukha), honour and insult (maan and apmaan). It is entirely HIS play for HIS own pleasure.
The fact is, it is HE only who expands himself. He himself is doer and HE himself experiences. HE makes others play such roles in HIS drama as HE feels like. Everything is as per HIS wish and well under HIS control and entire drama goes to get him pleasure.
Only HE the master of entire creation is visible and nothing else you can see. HE only speaks and then HE is one who listens. As HE likes, HE creates and again destroys. And this mystery HE makes only those persons understand whom HE likes. Everybody is in HIS control. If HE wants to save any person, no body can damage that person and if HE desires to finish any person, nobody can save that person. HE is most gracious and merciful and takes care of all. The person, who is engaged in HIS worshipping, is blessed and he gets bliss of entire knowledge. His bondages are broken and his both worlds become wonderful.
If only it pleases HIM, one attains salvation (mukti), stones can swim, one continues living without breath, one worships and one is saved of his sins. HE is owner of both the worlds and relishes HIS creation.
Nothing is in hands of human-beings. Ignorance makes one busy in wrong doings and he runs here and there to achieve targets of ego. He does not realize that it is God only who can provide, what he deserves. In an instant HE makes worm a king (and vice-versa). He protects humble-ones. To whom HE pleases, entire knowledge is revealed to him. You will find HIM in different moods and different behavioral patterns at different place and at different times. HE himself is truth. HIS deeds are truth. Everything is born from HIM, as HE is root of all. He is ekankar (one and only) and HE expands himself whenever HE desires. He is all livings-ones, sees through individual eyes. Entire creation is HIS body. Coming and going back is a game, which is continuing to please HIM.

In nutshell, whatever is, it is HE only and nothing else. Whatever is happening, is being monitored by HIM only. HE is with and without form. Creation and entire drama is illusory and its appearance is manifested, as HE wants to relish it in that manner. HE is omniscient and omnipotent. This intuitional knowledge can be acquired only through HIS grace. For which one as to recite HIS naam with faith, dependence, trust and love but at the same time, diminishing haume (pride- ego). When one surrenders himself to God and abides HIS orders, he gets blessings, after which he will not require and desire anything else. That knowledge (sojhi) granted by God almighty pacifies quest for answers. Otherwise it is beyond comprehension of human mind to understand cosmic play by its own efforts.

(6) Why overindulge in wordly affairs?

saath na chaalai bin bhajan bikhi-aa saglee chhaar.
har har naam kamaavanaa naanak ih Dhan saar.

My satguru maharaj has very mercifully, guided us particularly in ashtpadi 5 and 19 on these aspects.

In fact this creation is created and is being monitored by GOD himself. We human-beings forget HIM and mentally remain involved in worldly affairs only. Instead of strengthening our relationship with our Divine Father, we remain in false pride of worldly achievements, false feeling of relishing the pleasures of worldly assets, false urges for materialistic achievements. False, because these are going to diminish one day and these all are in packages containing troubles, vicious cycles of multiplying mental tensions and with final result in negative. And God’s love, you know, it is permanent and absolutely dependent. The real treasure is blessings of God, which you can get by faithful recitation of hari naam. It reminds me of paudi 7 of Japjee sahib which is as under

Jė jug chārė ārjā hor dasūnī ho­ė
Navā khanda vich jānī­ai nāl chalai sab ko­ė.
Changa nā­o rakhā­ė kai jas kīrat jag lė­ė
Jė tis nadar na āvī ta vāt na puchhai kė
Kītā andar kīt kar dosī dos dharė.
Nānak nirgun gun karė gunvanti­ā gun dė.

Long life (Even 4 yugas or maybe 10 times more), fame (Even if you are known in 9 continents), name and reputation (through the entire world), if you possess or happen to earn but if you lack blessings of GOD, you are no more than lowliest worm.

Instead of concentrating on earning materialistic achievements, one should concentrate on seeking HIS blessings.

Long life of faithless persons is useless. One who is internally in remembrance of God’s name gets every blessing and not the persons who appear to have obtained worldly achievements outwardly but there is difference between what they say, what they feel and what they do. These persons donot possess love in heart but boast of same outwardly, they preach others but donot follow same themselves, they feel that they had done their duty by having presentable look by dress and by other means outwardly without having sincerity in their lives. God is omniscient. Can they deceive HIM? No. In the darbar of waheguru there is no value what image you earned in world but what is important and absolutely necessary is your sincerity in heart towards GOD.

He understands language of love (Bhakhia bhao apaar) and image of your worldly richness, pride, fame, achievements does not influence HIM. And we get deeper love towards him if we remain in his remembrance for maximum period and in worldly affairs for minimum period. It does not mean we have to leave all actions, forget all our duties towards self, family and society. We have to see the world as manifestation of GOD only, do our duties sincerely, and remain in remembrance of GOD while performing our duties and never to focus our attention on unending urge of worldly desires. Guru sahib has guided us to “Nam Japo, Kirt Karo Vand ke Chhako”

Har har sėvak sėvā lāgai sabh dėkhai barahm pasārė
Ėk purakh ik nadrī āvai sabh ėkā nadar nihārė. 2 (SGGS982)

The devotee sees God manifested in entire world and is committed to do service to HIM through his creation. And GOD ALMIGHTY blesses him.

One should always remain in remembrance of God while performing his daily routines, have a feeling of interacting with God through worldly people, diminish his own haume and should treat all the supports available as gifts and blessings from God, reschedule his life routines so as to get maximum time for recitation, simran (meditation), sewa (service to society), as these steps will get him real and real direction towards God’s blessings.
And one should not remain in mad race of earning money, wealth, assets, power and materialistic achievements, as these will trap you vicious cycles of Maya. There is difference between earning and accumulation. Try to balance the targets and schedules of lives.

And over and above, pray to waheguru jee to strengthen your efforts.
Nanak naam chardhi kala tere bhane sarbat da bhala.

(5) Why should we remain thankful to HIM even when HE did not give what we requested (or took back what HE gave)?

das bastoo lay paachhai paavai.
ayk basat kaaran bikhot gavaavai.
ayk bhee na day-ay das bhee hir lay-ay.
ta-o moorhaa kaho kahaa karay-i.
jis thaakur si-o naahee chaaraa.
taa ka-o keejai sad namaskaaraa.
jaa kai man laagaa parabh meethaa.
sarab sookh taahoo man voothaa.
jis jan apnaa hukam manaa-i-aa.
sarab thok naanak tin paa-i-aa. [1..5] [Sukhmani Sahib ji]

We should always remain grateful to waheguru jee (God) for HIS gifts, protection, support, care and blessings. Whatever we appear, whatever we possess, whatever we are proud of, is all HIS gifts of blessings.

Now sometime we feel that our prayers are not responded. We did not get what we demanded or we were not relieved of pains despite our prayers or some support is withdrawn. We feel like asking “Why me?” to GOD. We create much grievance in our minds.

Mere satguru jee had been merciful on this aspect too and took up this point particularly in ashtpadi 5.

Sukhmani sahib guides us that there is no reason of grievance if we demanded ten things,HE granted nine and tenth was not provided. Why we remember that tenth and forget the other nine which he provided? The point to ponder is that nothing we obtained is the outcome of our own efforts. This entire cosmic drama is created and monitored by GOD himself. Whatever we appear, whatever we possess, whatever we are proud of, is all HIS gifts of blessings. There is none else anywhere. At the root of roots, HE only is. We, sometimes, feel insecure and trapped in worries. We forget that behind entire show, our DIVINE father is there, who continuously watches us. We may not understand what we require; HE understands our requirements and obliges us by providing necessities. A worldly father takes care of children and he provides them what is in the interest of children and not what children demand or wish. Same way that omnipotent DIVINE FATHER always provides care, support and protection to us. We continue making new wishes and pray to God for fulfillment of same. He only knows, what we deserve and what we require. We should trust our DIVINE FATHER and should depend on his strategies to provide us necessary care, requirements, support etc. There is virtually no point of getting grievance that God did not grant our wish(es).

Again,
“ayk bhee na day-ay das bhee hir lay-ay.ta-o moorhaa kaho ahaa karay-i.jis thaakur si-o naahee chaaraa.taa ka-o keejai sad namaskaaraa.

HE is omnipotent. Our grievances otherwise carry no value as HE cannot be pressurized. There is no other way out then to bow before HIM. Love HIM and respect HIS ways, you will get everything blissfully. Why to grieve? Instead of it, TRUST HIM.
One more point, in fact, HE is the only owner of everything in this creation. He grants us gifts for our use and that owner has prerogative to withdraw given items anytime. Again, no point of grievance. And if we accept HIS orders as HIS gifts and abide by HIS will, we are likely to be blessed with all kind of supports. And in case, we resist, we lose our credibility and we will be ultimate losers.

Let waheguru jee and satguru maharaj bless us with wisdom (sojhi).

(4) Why should we not forget to express our gratitude?

My satuguru jee had been very merciful. In ambrosial baani of sukhmani sahib jee, he has particularly drawn our attention (vide ashtpadi 4,6,20) that human-being should always feel grateful to waheguru jee (God) for HIS gifts, protection, support, care and blessings.

This entire cosmic drama is created and monitored by GOD himself for his own pleasures. He is the creator, sustainer and annular. Whatever we appear, whatever we possess, whatever we are proud of, is all HIS gifts of blessings. There is none else anywhere. At the root of roots, HE only is. We sometimes, we feel insecure and trapped in worries. We forget that behind entire show, our DIVINE father is there, who continuously watches us. We may not understand what we require; HE understands our requirements and obliges us by providing necessities. Worldly father takes care of children and they provide them what is in the interest of children and not what children demand or wish. Same way that omnipotent DIVINE FATHER always provides care, support and protection to us.


His mercy, just see what was your origin and what you are? Has not he protected and supported when you were in womb? Has he not provided you food and care in childhood, livelihood and other necessities in youth, support and care through family and relatives in old age? Is it not due to his grace that you enjoyed all pleasures, happy moments with own people, organs (indriyas i.e. hands, feet, ears, eyes, tongue), free availability of air, fire etc., Do not you feel you should give love to him who had been all-time protector of you, who provided you all pleasures of nine treasures, who got you honour?

Again, are you not enjoying delicacies, pleasant smells, palaces with peace, taste pleasures (rasa) attractive garments, comfortable beds to sleep, honour, health, cover-up of your shortcomings, this human body, vehicles, wealth by his HIS grace only?
Even motivation and pleasures of donating and doing noble deeds, are his gift only. Have you not been able to hear, see, speak, move and act because of his grace only? Do you not feel that you are popular, you command respect, your works are finished without obstacles and you reach truth? It is because of his mercy only.
Why forget Him who gives recognition to your efforts and deeds. Why forget him who is life of all, who protected you in womb, in difficult times, and is protecting now too?

I also feel deep deep gratitude towards waheguru jee and my satguru jee (Guru Sahib) who keeps me enlightened. Difficulties appear but now I treat these as my perception only. My Divine protector worries about same, not I. I count my blessings and always remain blissful at heart. My all wishes may not be fulfilled, but I am assured that I will get what I require. Children donot know whether their wishes are beneficial or not. I am child of that Divine Father, who takes care of me. I have full trust in HIM. Whatever I am today, it is as per his monitoring only and future is completely to be looked after by HIM only. I depend on HIS support only, which will never never fail. And see the mercy of my satguru jee who gave me such wisdom (sojhi).

And my perception is when you get this sense of gratitude, all other virtues particularly, which are required for spiritual elevation will also follow. But it is all HIS mercy.

mai nirguni-aaray ko gun naahee aapay taras pa-i-o-ee.

(3) Why God is more dependable than these worldly supports?




daynhaar parabh chhod kai laageh aan su-aa-ay.
naanak kahoo na seejh-ee bin naavai pat jaa-ay. 1

Mercifully, my satguru jee has very kindly bestowed blessings on us. He has explained this in sukhmani sahib again and again and has specially emphasized its necessity,for our benefit, in ashtpadi 5,14 and 15.

Due to our sanskars, we seek shelter from worldly objects. Reality is , this entire cosmic drama is created by waheguru jee himself. At the root of roots, HE is the only one. These visible forms of worldly objects are all diminishable and will pass away some day. These objects perform as per direction of waheguru jee only. In fact these donot have their individuality. If you ponder deeply, you will feel that false are body, wealth, all relations, ego, belongingess, material wealth, power, youth, desire, anger, vehicles,expensive clothes,pride of gathered wealth. Timepermitting, these all will vainish. But God’s support will always remain, forever. Do not you feel that false are the indrias (organs) busy in wrong direction i.e. ears engaged in criticism of others, stealing hands, eyes having evil sight for others’ women, tongue craving for tastes, feet engaged in damaging others, mind having greed for others’ wealth, nose which inhales polluted smells. In case you seek shelter in worldy objects, it is totally undependable. Even if you have any hope, it is again controlled by and at the mercy of God HIMSELF. If God’s blessings are there, you may be able to get support from God through these objects and if not, nothing and no situation can help you. History has got lakhs of examples. Again the worldly objects (wealth, power, assets etc.) are transitory and always on travel. Today the same are with one person, tomorrow it can go to another person. Whereas the treasure of God’s naam and God’s blessings, God’s support earned is today yours and tomorrow also it will be yours only.

One should concentrate on shelter with God because dependence on persons may fail, dependence on God will never fail, because there is nothing in the hands of creation as every thing moves under HIS command only. Where these worldly hopes deceive, God’s blessings always and always support you. False is the sense of pleasures from worldly objects. These are transitory and full of succeeding miseries and mental involvement. The pleasure of recitation of waheguru’s naam and bliss earned thereof is permanent and elevating without any miseries.

If you have concluded that you are enjoying and you can win HIM by smart looks, wealth, power, donation etc., forget it. These are with you because of his mercy only. That also reminds me verse 7 of Japjee sahib

jay jug chaaray aarjaa hor dasoonee ho-ay.
navaa khanda vich jaanee-ai naal chalai sabh ko-ay.
changa naa-o rakhaa-ay kai jas keerat jag lay-ay.
jay tis nadar na aavee ta vaat na puchhai kay.
keetaa andar keet kar dosee dos Dharay.
naanak nirgun gun karay gunvanti-aa gun day.
tayhaa ko-ay na sujh-ee je tis gun ko-ay karay.

In nutshell, Long life, popularity everywhere, reputation, fame, even if you possess but if you lack God’s blessings, you are no more than merely lowly worm.

Then why not forget the support of worldly objects that is undependable, of no real value, transitory, full of miseries and depend on support of GOD that is dependable, forever, full of bliss.

I am grateful to my satguru who has very kindly provided me this sojhi. Believe me, even if you find any convincing reason (?) for any worldly object, the support through that object will always come from God only, may be through that channel.

(2) Why Sukhmani Sahib?




ik-oNkaar satgur parsaad
aad gur-ay namah.
jugaad gur-ay namah.
satgur-ay namah.
saree gurdayv-ay namah. [1]

asatpadee.
simra-o simar simar sukh paava-o.
kal kalays tan maahi mitaava-o.
simra-o jaas bisumbhar aikai.
naam japat agnat anaykai.
bayd puraan simrit suDhaakh-yar.
keenay raam naam ik aakh-yar.
kinkaa ayk jis jee-a basaavai.
taa kee mahimaa ganee na aavai.
kaaNkhee aikai daras tuhaaro.
naanak un sang mohi uDhaaro. [1 ]



This entire cosmic drama is created and is being monitored by HIM only. Sri Guru Granth Sahib explains logically this entire cosmic philosophy and provides guidance, support and direction to we people to get across this delusion created by maya. The way out is simran only. Japjee sahib is essence of Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji and Sukhmani Sahib is explanation to Japjee sahib.

Sukhmani sahib is in very simple language and for local people, even translation is not required. It is so beautifully worded and is so expressive that one wonders about its depth. It has got 24 ashtpadies with 8 paudies and 1 shaloka in each ashtpadi. It is a valuable gift from fifth swaroopa (form) of Guru Nanak Dev ji i.e. Dhan Dhan Satguru Arjan Sahib Jee Maharaj.

Entire gurbani is worship-able and we bow to it. But ashtpadi 24 explains that Sukhmani Sahib is specially blessed by Guru Sahib.

Guru Sahib has guided that whoever will recite sukhmani sahib any time in future (any yuga); he will be saved, as this bani is treasureful.
Whoever will listen sukhmani sahib with devotion he is blessed with God’s love. He is relieved of vicious cycles of rebirths. His all diseases and pains vanish. As he is now saint and his actions are now pure and he gets highest glory. That is why guru sahib called it sukhmani sahib because of its virtues.
When a person sincerely performs simran through sukhmani sahib, he becomes treasure of virtues. His all desires are fulfilled. He gets honour and everything else. Lucky are persons who get sukhmani sahib, inscribed in their hearts. Whoever recites sukhmani sahib, gets protection, peace, wealth, nine treasures, wisdom, knowledge, blessing of meditation. It is because God’s knowledge is best pilgrimage. The person concerned is blissful in heart, knowledgeable (knowledge of God), impartial towards all, sees God in all. Who gets it? The one who recites Sukhmani Sahib with his mouth. As scriptures also guide, naam of God saves you from effects of sins and the person is blessed when he seeks shelter of God.

My personal understanding is more devotedly, you recite sukhmani sahib, more intuitional meanings will appear in your hirday (heart). And my personal experience had been wonderful. It is panacea of all worldly diseases. Whenever anybody wants help in any regard, he should recite sukhmani sahib with devotion, and lo problems are fixed. Lakhs of people seek blessings through Sukhmani sahib. And if you want spiritual elevation why not to take shelter of satguru’s specially blessed bani?

sabh tay ooch taa kee sobhaa banee.
naanak ih gun naam sukhmanee. [8..24]

Sukhmani Sahib Ji as I perceived

too thaakur tum peh ardaas.
jee-o pind sabh tayree raas.
tum maat pitaa ham baarik tayray.
tumree kirpaa meh sookh ghanayray.
ko-ay na jaanai tumraa ant.
oochay tay oochaa bhagvant.
sagal samagree tumrai sutir Dhaaree.
tum tay ho-ay so aagi-aakaaree.
tumree gat mit tum hee jaanee.
naanak daas sadaa kurbaanee. 84

HE is my master. I am his servant of servants. My waheguru jee (God) has very kindly given me some sojhi (understanding). I never deserved this mercy but he has bestowed HIS blessings by HIS grace only. It is true, merely by own efforts, one cannot achieve any understanding, any inspiration, any direction. This cosmic play is HIS drama only which he runs for HIS pleasure.Only the person who is blessed by him can get inspired by HIS words through satguru.
HE only, inspires. HE only, gives strength to your yearning and efforts to get spiritual elevation and HE only, grants blessings.

I am a semi-literate person with no command either on language or on knowledge but even then I am inspired to spell out my understanding of sukhmani sahib. I am daring to write same for self and sharing among my well-wishers but am inclined to seek humble apology from learned persons for shortcomings. I admit I am not a scholar. If I am wrong somewhere, I may be pointed out. I will re-align my understanding by taking those words as hukam of my waheguru jee.

I could perceive that if we concentrate on gurbani as a sincere student and that too with devotion, we are going to get its intutional meanings into our hearts,(with HIS blessings of course). What students do? They not only read, but revise same, read out loudly, write down same in their own words, present themselves for test / exam.etc. They move to next chapter / session only after understanding same. If we follow this sincerely, it will multiply our yearning for HIS blessings.

Again sincere paath of gurbani requires approach as a student and devotion (love towards God). Before paath and in between He is to be prayed again and again for HIS support with humbleness,faith and love. Simran done with understanding will get us HIS blessings fast. Without HIS mercy nothing is possible and HE understands language of love only.
saachaa saahib saach naa-ay bhaakhi-aa bhaa-o apaar.
